WHY CHOOSE ORGANIC?
Every now and then, we like to restate our commitment to being an organic grocer and supporting the work of our organic and biodynamic farmer partners. Here are 8 benefits of organic farming we believe you, your family and your community should be having a conversation about:
1 - AVOID HARMFUL CHEMICALS
Organic farming avoids the use of harmful pesticides, fertilisers and chemicals in every stage of the growing process. Produce from organic farms is never sprayed post-harvest to increase shelf life or kill fungus. And what we do to the earth, we do to ourselves. Increasing evidence is pointing to the damaging effect glyphosates and other broad-spectrum antibiotic sprays are having on our gut health and overall wellbeing.
2 - THE NUTRIENTS
Organic fruit and vegetables are grown just as nature intended. Well grown organic produce has been shown to possess higher nutritional content, particularly antioxidants, than conventional produce.
3 - THE TASTE
It’s simple - you can taste the difference. Flavour is perhaps the single most enjoyable thing about the food we consume. Organic and biodynamic vegetables are often more intense in flavour due to optimal soil and plant health. Taste the difference for yourself!
4 - THE TRUE COST
By supporting local organic growers, you are bypassing massive supply chains, paying the true cost of food production - and perhaps most importantly - not leaving the detrimental environmental effects of intensive chemical farming for future generations.
5 - REDUCE POLLUTION
Organic farming does not pollute our waterways with chemical run-off from synthetic pesticides, which get trapped in the water system. It also prevents topsoil erosion by building organic matter and creating more natural ecosystems.
6 - SUPPORT SMALL FARMS
Bypass massive supply chains and corporate monopolies by buying local. Small, family run farms are highly represented in organic farming. By choosing organic, you are supporting our local economy.
7 - HELP CONSERVE BIODIVERSITY
This planet is our home, but it is also the home of every other insect, bird, plant and mammal - and we only have one planet. Organic farming seeks to harmonise with nature to allow other plant and animal species to also flourish.
8 - CARE FOR WORKERS HEALTH
If you thrive, I thrive. Organic farming prevents exposing farmers and farm workers to the harmful effects of chemicals.
We hope this has given you some food for thought and possible discussion topics within your circle.
